Tyhir Berry had just turned 17 two weeks before he was gunned down on a West Philadelphia street on Dec. 12, 2016.
Police said they believe Tyhir, an 11th-grader at Strawberry Mansion high school, was targeted on purpose by the two men who opened fire on him, but at the time of his death, they were not saying why. His friends nevertheless expressed shock at a vigil that attracted dozens of people.
“Nobody would have thought it would be Ty on a board with balloons and candles and the news and all, all these people out here,” friend Latifa Kepper told 6ABC.
