Since the Philadelphia Obituary Project started keeping track in 2016, at least 20 people were killed every month. Sometimes many more. In the depths of the pandemic, 50 or 60 would be lost to gun violence per month.
It’s sad to say that “only” 10 people died in September 2024, which is a big decrease compared to August, which had 26. But that’s the state of the world we live in, where any progress is better than none.
Still, this is not a celebration. Instead, it’s a moment to mourn those that we did lose.
