At the Philadelphia Obituary Project, we treat homicide victims as individuals rather than statistics. But we are in crisis. The number of people murdered continues to rise, and so every month, we will share this data along with the names of each person in one post.
Philadelphia police responded to 54 homicides in November. Among those killed was Philly’s 500th murder victim, Eloise Harmon, 55, at 7th and Jackson. Police arrested her estranged husband shortly after the shooting.
November’s victims also included 32-year-old Jessica Covington, who was seven months pregnant when she was fatally shot while leaving her baby shower in Northeast Philadelphia. Her child was also killed. Police were questioning a suspect as of last week.
In addition, police are investigating two arson deaths. On Nov. 12, Jocelyn “Josh” Chase, 57 and Olusegun Ajala, 69, were found dead inside a burning Nicetown rowhome that officials have ruled arson.
