At the Philadelphia Obituary Project, we treat homicide victims as individuals rather than statistics. But we are in crisis. The number of people murdered continues to rise, and so every month, we will share this data along with the names of each person in one post.
In September, Philadelphia reached a distressing milestone: 400 people have been killed so far in 2021, surpassing the total for last year at this time. The monthly total for September was 57 homicides.
