At the Philadelphia Obituary Project, we treat homicide victims as individuals rather than statistics. But we are in crisis. The number of people murdered continues to rise, even during the pandemic. And so every month, we will share this data along with the names of each person in one post.
Philadelphia Police responded to 55 homicides in May 2022, a sharp increase over April, when 34 people were killed. May’s victim list is notable in that on five dates — May 13, 22, 25, 29 and 30 — police investigated four or more separate homicides. On May 30, seven people were killed, including a double homicide in Port Richmond.
Here are the names and ages of those who were killed, plus when and where. But we know they are not just names. Please contact us at [email protected] if you are a family member so we can properly memorialize them. Lists from previous months can be found here.
