Kwadir Hines-Baldwin was surrounded by love in his life, in particular by the bountiful love of all the women of his extended family.
“My son was a momma’s boy and a grammom’s boy,” his mother, Tasheen, said in a video as she was surrounded by relatives. “With these two, he never did anything wrong in their eyes.”
Kwadir was only 20 when he was shot dead in North Philadelphia on Dec. 28, 2016.
We were unable to connect with his family, but a woman named Camile Sheron Turner joined the family to talk about Kwadir and broadcast the meeting on Facebook.
They remembered a kid who laughed a lot, and who was so chunky when he was little that he picked up the nickname Fat Daddy.
“I miss my Kwadir,” his grandmother Barbara said. “I miss my Fat Daddy.”
“I loved him, and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for anyone. He was always happy. I feel like what happened to my grandson, I hope that won’t ever happened to another family.”
His other grandmother, Velma, said she was devastated. And she insisted that Kwadir was a good kid who didn’t deserve what happened.
“These guys are still out there on the street and I don’t see how they can live with this on their conscience. I know a lot of people are scared to talk, but we will get justice for Kwadir.”
Tasheen, who has six other sons and a daughter, said her kids have gotten angrier and are fighting more since Kwadir was killed. “It’s like they don’t care anymore. My 4-year-old doesn’t sleep at night, he’s up with me until 3 in the morning. And my 2-year-old, he doesn’t really understand, but he knows, ‘they shot my brother.’ He knows at 2.”
