In this time of stress and uncertainty, there’s a basic truth that gives us hope — that together we can do extraordinary things.
Over the past few weeks and months, the entire world has been coming together to stand up, help out, give back and heal. Both simple and extraordinary acts of generosity have been helping the world get through this global pandemic.
Today, on November 28, the Philadelphia Obituary Project, a 501(c)(3) public nonprofit charity, is participating in #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day of unity and giving. Our mission is to tell the stories of Philadelphia’s homicide victims, because even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the city’s homicide rate continues to rise.
In fact, as of today, there have been 380 homicides in Philadelphia this year.

We remain dedicated to our mission to tell the stories of Philadelphia’s homicide victims, like Thalyl, a 17-year-old killed March 26 whose family cannot mourn properly because of social distancing protocols at funeral homes and cemeteries.
And like Henry, who was murdered March 16 and whose family is waiting for the courts to reopen so they can face his killer as his case moves through the judicial system.
While we can’t erase the tragedy of homicide, we can do our part to bring comfort to those who are suffering the loss of a loved one. But we can’t do it alone.
Not only do we need your support, we need your help to spread the word. Please tell your friends and family why you believe in our work and encourage them to support us, too.
Please join the movement today, November 23! Bookmark our donate link: phillyobitproject.com/donate.
Here are the ways you can help tomorrow:
1. Give. Go to phillyobitproject.com/donate and make a contribution. We especially encourage you to become an obituary sponsor, which covers our costs toward producing one obituary.
2. Follow. Please follow us on Facebook and Instagram and invite your friends to do the same.
3. Spread the word. Encourage your friends and family to join you in creating real impact on May 5 by sharing what our mission means to you and why you support our organization. Make sure to use hashtag #GivingTuesdayNow.
Thank you.
Hoping you are healthy and safe,
