More than 500 people were murdered in Philly last year, most from gun violence, and this year is shaping up to be just as bad. Children. Pregnant women. Grandparents. Young men and women in the prime of their lives. But most victims will remain a mystery to the public.
At the Philadelphia Obituary Project, a 501(c)(3) public charity, we tell the stories of Philly’s murder victims to ensure they are remembered, to comfort families, and to bring more attention to unsolved cases.
Every victim deserves to be memorialized with an obituary, and our ultimate goal is to provide that. However, we only have the resources to produce a small fraction of the obits that need to be written.
We pay our writers for the outstanding work they produce, and with your support today, we could write even more obituaries.
We can’t erase these tragedies, but we can do our part to memorialize the members of our community who lost their lives due to this preventable violence.
If you believe in our mission to tell the stories of Philly’s homicide victims, please consider supporting us in our annual summer fundraising campaign.
Here are the ways you can help:
1. Give. Go to phillyobitproject.com/donate and make a contribution. We especially encourage you to become an obituary sponsor, which covers our costs toward producing one obituary.
2. Follow. Please follow us on Facebook and Instagram and invite your friends to do the same, then share our posts with your followers.
3. Spread the word. Encourage your friends and family to join you in creating real impact by sharing what our mission means to you and why you support our organization.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts ❤️
