Frederick Duggans’ star was rising, and he was saving money to move to California to reach new heights.
Performing under the stage name “Rollin Fredo,” his rap career was getting underway when he moved to Philadelphia in 2022. He had just released his single “Call My Name” and landed a spot at the DMV Fest. He even performed twice that summer for Philly’s Stop the Violence movement.
Unfortunately, his time was cut short. He had only lived in the city for two months before he was shot on the 2900 block of North Front Street in Kensington on October 2, 2022. He was 20.
His mom, Niki Day, said he was “an awesome kid,” very smart and talented, with huge potential.
Frederick had begun making music as a kid as he was being raised in Earlville, Maryland, by his grandparents, to whom he was very close. Because Earlville is near the northern tip of the Chesapeake Bay, Frederick loved to go fishing out on a boat.
By the time he turned 15, he got serious about making music. The music video for his song, “Grind,” is on YouTube, as is a tribute video made after his death set to another of his original songs, “Worth It.” His music can still be found on Soundcloud, Spotify and Apple Music.
He moved to Philadelphia two months before his death with the intention of making enough money there to be able to eventually move to California to record and perform.

In addition to his passion for music, Frederick was a dog lover. He had multiple over the years, and he’d had his pit bull Kane for about a decade at the time of his death.
“He was great with his dogs, he trained them—he could’ve been the next Caesar Milan,” Niki said. Kane is still in Earlville, taken care of by his grandmother, as well as another dog, Rita. Both no doubt miss Frederick as much as the rest of his family does.
