All Eric Perry wanted in life was to find a good job and take care of his family. He had two children, and at the time of his death on October 5, 2017, was working to get his forklift license.
“He wanted things that were going to keep his family better in the long run,” Chris James, Eric’s friend, said. “He was very adamant on finding something good.”
The 24-year-old may have gotten into trouble in his youth, but he was striving to straighten his life out. He worked hard to find a long-term, stable job and tried to encourage his friends to do the same.
“He motivated me to always do better. That’s real talk,” Chris said. “He motivated me to stop bullshitting and save my money.”
Friends and family remember Eric as a kind and caring person.
“He was definitely a good person. Even when he got killed, it wasn’t even his fault,” Chris said. “That’s what hurt me.”
When Eric wasn’t working, he loved to make people laugh.
“He was a comedian. He used to do viral videos, instagram videos and stuff. He was funny as hell.”
Eric and Chris became close friends over the years and have plenty of funny memories together. Chris remembers borrowing his grandmother’s car for Eric to drive to a friend’s house in Olney. That’s when Chris realized that he had to drive home by himself – and he didn’t know how to.
“[Eric said], remember what I taught you,” Chris joked. “I drove to the corner and I didn’t know how to turn… I knew how to drive ever since that day.”
Both Eric and Chris loved fashion and would see who could buy the coolest shoes.
“He was into fashion too, so we would always compete to see who had the best sneakers. If he’d get the same sneakers as me, we’d compete to see who got the best jacket to go with it.”
